Investigator/Trainer

After 30+ years in the rail industry, Kevin gained operational experience in a variety of positions that included shunter and locomotive driver.  He was an elected Safety Representative for various periods where he worked in operational positions and also participated in the Competency Development Program for the then Government Railway. Kevin was also a General Officer in the WA Locomotive Drivers’ Union.

After the privatisation of the Government Railway, he held several senior operational and safety positions in the Australian Railroad Group.  The new era of external regulation and establishing a Rail Safety Management System presented a number challenges for the newly privatised railway. Kevin was involved in embedding the new safety requirements into the organisation. 

 

During the formative years of the Australian Railroad Group, Kevin was introduced to the ICAM methodology and led numerous investigations into significant rail safety occurrences.

In 2008, Kevin enrolled for tertiary study at Curtin University, studying for a Postgraduate Certificate in Health Occupational and Safety Management.  Kevin holds Lead Auditor qualifications and undertakes rail safety management system auditing and advises on best-practice management principles.

Kevin is a Principal Safety Consultant at Safety Wise and provides ICAM Investigator training, investigation and safety consultation.

Kevin has extensive skills and experience in:

    

  • Investigation and reporting using ICAM methodology

  • Investigation and reporting using AS4292.7

  • Conducting audits and rail safety field assessment

  • Developing Rail Safety Management procedures and standards (Application of AS4292)

  • Locomotive driving assessment, train handling assessment and locomotive event recorder analysis.
