What Are Investigation Coaching Services?

The purpose of working with an investigation coach is to maximise both your own potential and your team's potential.

Traditionally, we've facilitated many investigations however in an effort to empower our clients to make positive change using ICAM, we are now offering coaching and mentoring to those in need of assistance.

We're finding more and more now that organisations are not completing their ICAM investigations in a timely manner due to a number of factors including:

  • Lack of resources

  • Misinterpretation of the ICAM process

  • Overwhelming workload

Our investigation coaches will work with you one-on-one, or with your team to identify your specific goals, strengths and areas of opportunity. Assistance with investigations can be in many areas:

  1. Gathering the data

  2. Organising the data

  3. Analysis of the data

  4. Learning from incidents

WHAT CAN A SAFETY WISE INVESTIGATION COACH OFFER YOU?
  • Your Safety Wise Investigation Coach has expertise. He or she knows through experience how to help you progress and close out investigations. How? Because they’ve already undertaken numerous investigations in their career. The investigation coach has the training, expertise and skill to help you grow as an investigator and an expert in your workplace.

  • Your investigation coach knows that the best motivation comes from clear and open communication. He or she delivers critical information to you in a way that makes sense and can easily be turned into action. Your coach will offer a supportive yet objective approach as you make progress, making them a trusted person you can turn to in times of need.

  • Your investigation coach holds you accountable. They will keep you on track with the investigation, helping you understand what's relevant, what't not relevant and what needs to be done to keep progressing to a conclusion.

HOW DOES COACHING WORK?

Coaching can and often does commence from the moment you talk on the phone or via email with our investigators. It might be a discussion about where things are at and what needs to be done prior to our arrival, through to specific guidance on either potential or real problem areas.

Once formally engaged, our investigators will arrive on site at a mutually agreeable time and begin the process of working with you and your team to assist the investigation.

Just like a physical trainer, they'll be by your side, providing assistance, guidance and coaching you through the ICAM investigation process.

  • We'll help you plan the investigation.

  • We'll help you identify data gathering requirements.

  • We'll guide you on how to gather the data.

  • We'll help you sort through it all, understanding what is relevant and what's not.

  • We'll guide you through analysing the data using the ICAM process.

  • We'll assist you develop actions that address the Absent/Failed Defences, Individual/Team Actions, Task/Environmental Conditions and Organisational Factors that have been identified.

  • And finally we'll help you develop the report.

Once you start to work with your investigation coach, you will learn to take effective action and focus your efforts on what really matters. You will stop getting stuck on roadblocks and distractions.

WILL SAFETY WISE STILL LEAD AND FACILITATE INVESTIGATIONS?

Absolutely! We recognise the importance of having an independent investigation process. We recognise that the reality of work pressures means that there sometimes simply isn't enough resources to be available when needed. We also recognise that even during an ICAM coaching service, we may need to step in and lead the investigation as things become more complex.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR- Luke Dam (Chief Executive Officer)

Luke has worked in various industries over the years including pharmaceutical, retail, manufacturing, and transport including iconic brands like WesFarmers, Goodyear, CSL Limited, and Incitec Pivot Limited.

His work in OHS and learning and development has seen him deliver services to clients, both internal and external as well as managing service delivery teams around the world.

Luke holds a Graduate Certificate of Management (Learning) as well as a Diploma of Occupational Health and Safety, a Diploma of Training and Assessment Systems, a Certificate IV Workplace Training and Assessment, a Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response & Rescue and a Certificate II in Public Safety (SES Rescue).

Luke is extensively involved in a project to establish an association dedicated to confined space safety and to drive change in legislation to promote best-practice in this high-risk area. Luke is passionate about online OHS and incident investigation communities, moderating a number of large LinkedIn groups boasting over 11,000 members globally.
